Adventures with my Maestro Wu pocket knife – Part 1

I stopped by the post office one morning to pick up a few shipping boxes. While waiting at the counter, I noticed an elderly couple trying to modify a cardboard box by trimming one of the flaps.

The gentleman was using a box cutter, but was having difficulty figuring out how to use it effectively. His wife was offering advice, which he seemed less interested in hearing. The scene was both familiar and entertaining, and it reminded me of how many of us approach simple tasks when someone is standing nearby with suggestions.

Once he finally positioned the blade correctly, he began trying to cut the cardboard. Unfortunately, progress was slow. Rather than slicing through the box, he was making short cuts while awkwardly flicking the knife forward. His wife was standing very close to the cutting path, which made the situation look less than ideal from a safety standpoint.

I offered to help and suggested that she step back a little for safety. The gentleman politely declined and continued working. After several more attempts, the box had only been cut a short distance.

By the time I finished purchasing my supplies, the project still wasn’t going much faster. I offered my assistance again, explaining that it would be quicker and safer. This time, he accepted.

I pulled out my Maestro Wu Mini Folding Knife, positioned the blade along the cardboard, and made a single smooth cut through the entire length of the flap. The difference was immediate. The couple was surprised by how easily the knife passed through the cardboard and impressed by the size and performance of the little folder.

They thanked me, finished packing their box, and left the post office smiling. It was a small interaction, but one of those moments that reminds you how useful a properly sharpened knife can be in everyday life.

The knife I used was my Maestro Wu Mini Folding Knife, sharpened to 5,000 grit using Shapton Professional Series stones. A sharp edge may not solve every problem, but on that morning it certainly made one task easier.
