Adventures with My Maestro Wu Pocket Knife – Part 2

Maestro Wu Pocket Knife

You never really know when a pocket knife is going to come in handy. Most of the time, it simply sits quietly in your pocket, waiting for the occasional task that comes along. Every once in a while, though, you find yourself in a situation where that little knife becomes surprisingly useful. That happened to me one morning while I was out for a walk with my daughter.

Escaping the Morning Heat

We were walking along when we passed a baby store. The sun was already beating down pretty hard, so we decided to go inside for a while and cool off before continuing our walk. The store was nicely air-conditioned, and my daughter immediately noticed a small play area filled with toys. There was even a little double swing, which quickly became the main attraction for her.

The store also had a small seating area where parents could sit, watch their children, and apparently take a little break themselves. Right there was a massage chair. Since we were the only customers in the store, I figured this was a pretty good opportunity to relax while my daughter played. She settled onto the swing, while I settled into the massage chair. It turned out to be a surprisingly long break because she was perfectly happy on that swing for almost an hour.

After a while, however, I started realizing that even a massage chair can be a little too effective. My back was actually beginning to feel sore from getting massaged for so long. Just as I was getting comfortable again, one of the store employees came over to the small kitchen area, which had a sink and a little refrigerator, and asked where the fruit knife was.

The Missing Fruit Knife

That caught my attention for a moment. I didn’t think much of it because I assumed they must have a knife somewhere. I figured it probably wasn’t anything particularly impressive, but it should at least be enough to cut some fruit. I went back to relaxing in the massage chair and quickly forgot about the whole thing.

Then my phone rang.

While I was talking, I happened to look over toward the employee. That’s when I realized there was apparently a serious shortage of knives in this particular store. She was trying to cut a lemon with a spoon. Yes, a spoon. An actual teaspoon. I watched for a moment as she tried to make some progress, but the lemon wasn’t exactly cooperating. At that point, I told the person on the phone that I would call them back because I had a small emergency to take care of.

When a Teaspoon Isn’t Enough

The employee continued trying to cut the lemon, but it was pretty obvious that the spoon wasn’t going to accomplish much. I had no idea how long she had already been trying, but judging by the results, the lemon was definitely winning. That’s when I remembered the little knife I was carrying in my pocket — my Maestro Wu Mini Folding Knife.

I took it out, called the employee over to my chair, and offered it to her. She initially looked at me with a slightly confused expression, probably wondering why I was handing her a tiny folding knife. Then she looked at the lemon and seemed to realize exactly what I was suggesting. Her expression was almost as if she were thinking, “That looks like it might work a lot better than the spoon.”

The Little Knife Gets the Job Done

The knife has a very small blade, just a little over an inch long, so cutting straight through a large lemon wasn’t really an option. Instead, she worked her way around the circumference, gradually cutting through the lemon until it finally separated into two halves. It wasn’t exactly a major cutting job, but compared with the teaspoon, the little pocket knife was clearly the right tool for the job.

Once she was finished, she rinsed and wiped down the blade before handing the knife back to me with a smile. She then took a sip of her freshly prepared lemon water, apparently quite happy that the lemon-cutting crisis had finally been resolved.

Back to the Massage Chair

I folded the Maestro Wu Mini Folding Knife back up, slipped it into my pocket, and checked on my daughter. She was still happily enjoying the swing, completely unaware of the tiny emergency that had just taken place. With everything back to normal, I settled into the massage chair again and continued my morning break.

There was only one thing I had forgotten about my phone call. I had told the person on the other end that I would call them back, but I never actually did. Somehow, a baby store, a massage chair, a happy child, a stubborn lemon, and a teaspoon had completely distracted me from the conversation.

It was certainly not the kind of situation I expected to encounter during a simple morning walk, but that’s part of the fun of carrying a small pocket knife. You never know when it might come in handy. Sometimes it’s for an ordinary little task, and sometimes it saves the day when someone is desperately trying to cut a lemon with a teaspoon.

And on this particular morning, my Maestro Wu Pocket Knife definitely earned its place in my pocket.
