I was quite happy to receive my Mike Martinez Custom 3/4 Hollow Ground 8/8 Straight Razor yesterday from Martinez Blades. It’s 52-100 Steel with stabilized curly box elder burl scales harvested in Cushing, TX, and a clear G10 Liner. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I fist opened it. WOW. Even after seeing it several times, my reaction on the unveiling below is still genuine!

Okay guys, I’m very excited right now about to unveil a custom-made razor from Mike Martinez. We did some negotiating and while I had to give up several firstborns and some organs in order to get this, it was totally worth the trade. So let’s unveil this for the first time here.

So came beautifully packed, I already opened it, I saw it, I already screamed like a girl. I want you guys to do the same. So, are you ready for this? Now Mike, before we get into this, Mike is known for his big blades and anybody who knows me and has seen maybe some of my videos, I’m a big blade guy.

I love old school Sheffields. I love Wade and Butchers. I love the big, you know, hatchet style, you know, seven-eighths, six-eighths, and eight-eighths.

And you know, Mike makes like, you know, big razors and he makes some other ones as well, but I’m really into the big ones and that’s what really drew me to Mike, aside from his quality and he’s a great guy. So, with nothing more, whatever to do, here we go. Look at that beast, man.

Get a nice logo on there, a little placed. It’s 52100 steel. I’ll watch what happens when I open this thing.  I mean, I’m on my second box of Kleenex right now, man. Look at this thing. Wow, it is a monster.

That beautiful smile, old school Sheffield style. I mean, you could skin a, you could shave a pig and then shave your own face with this thing, man. This is wonderful.

So again, beautiful work, spotless, excellent, smooth the way it sets. It’s beautiful. There’s no, no rattle spacing. I don’t know if the camera’s picking this up. It’s gorgeous. It just fits right in.

Solid, smooth. And you know, for such a big razor, you know, and this is one of the things I really like about Mike’s razors. This is my second razor.

So yeah, I know what I’m talking about a little bit, is a lot of big blades feel heavy. They feel dangerous. They feel like, oh my God, this is huge.

I don’t know what to do with this. Nah, the way he’s got these balanced here, he’s got the tapers going, he’s got everything is just balanced. I feel like I’m driving a little sports car right now.

So can’t wait to get the shave going on this and let the haters hate right now. Cause Mike Martinez just hit one out of the park, man. All right.

As stated, Mike makes some big razors, which I personally love. The beautiful thing about them is that they aren’t bulky or heavy to wield, and they zip around your face just like a 4/8 or 5/8 full hollow sports car. And they really do come shave ready – a claim straight razor guys like me are usually very skeptical of. But in this case, it really was 100% shave ready. Below is the first test shave straight out of the box.

The shave was a huge success- WTG and ATG were flawless and the blade sang joyously throughout the whole thing. If you’re looking for some next level straight razors, look no further than Mike Martinez.
